“Print is dead” is a common sentiment nowadays with the rise of digital media and the growing ubiquity of smartphones. But we all know that receiving a handwritten letter feels different than an email and hanging a poster feels different than having an image as your phone wallpaper. Tiny Dog Press carries on the tradition of printmaking, who have literally spearheaded revolutions through the millennia. She continues to produce beautiful, printed materials -- whether they be cards or posters, with preset designs or customized.

Tiny Dog Press is a woman owned Baltimore City letterpress print + design company. Each item starts as a hand-drawn illustration that is then hand-printed either through letterpress printing on a vintage 1949 platen press or hand-pulled silk screen printing. Printmaker Kari Miller keep the hand-pulled methods alive with vibrant colors and locally loved locations.

This holiday season, go old-school and give your loved ones some prints that they’ll cherish and keep. Tiny Dog Press has a collection of cards and silkscreen prints with iconic DC landmarks (the Capitol building, Anacostia Chair, Chinatown Friendship Archway just to name a few). They even come on coasters! Perfect for the relative who’s visiting you for the holiday who wants a souvenir. And shipping’s free too with promo code DCSpendrise.

The love of paper, smell of ink and physical labor required drew me to printmaking. I loved being able to reproduce one image and share it with multiple people. I love the feel of the impression with letterpress printing. At markets, I ask each customer if they would like to feel a card. I believe the handling of the paper and experiencing the impression gives a greater joy to the receiver of the card than one that is printed digitally.
— Kari Miller, founder of Tiny Dog Press

Tiny Dog Press announcements, invitations and cards are printed on either a Vandercock proofing press or a Chandler & Price (C&P) platen press; printing one announcement at a time on 100% cotton paper. Ink is hand mixed for each order. Each item will be slightly unique due to the hand made and letterpress process.

5 Stars on Etsy

Not only were the two prints unique and an awesome gift, the art looked great in the frames picked out, and this entire transaction was made to be so easy. I love this shop, its art and how easy she makes it to do a custom order. I’ll definitely be shopping here again and again.

I would give TEN stars if I could. So much care put into these beautiful announcements. I can’t say enough good about working with her. The product is absolutely perfect.

I am most proud of being able to use my business for more than producing products but also to reach my community for something bigger than the stationery I produce.
— Kari Miller, founder of Tiny Dog Press

Kari has hosted and organized the Benefit Baltimore Market on "Giving" Tuesday.  It's an evening at a local brewery with makers + food trucks selling their wares. 20% of each item sold is donated to 5 Baltimore City non-profits. In 2016, over $2,000 was raised during this event!

Read more about the market here. Check out the market's Instagram and webpage!

Kari has also collaborated with a local retail store to create and sell cards that would benefit an area that experienced severe flooding.

In an interview, she said, "I love having a small business that gives back to the community where it is placed. I love having the financial ability within my business to be able to give back to the community. I hope this is something Tiny Dog Press is able to continue and grow further into."

A note from Kari:

Each spring I help promote a 2-day workshop for parents of foster and adoptive kids who have experienced early childhood trauma.  We parented a child for a year who had experienced severe early childhood trauma, therefore my heart naturally yearns towards helping organizations that help kids from the foster care system!
